We spoke today with the first ever and current Cage Legacy Lightweight Champion Ciaran Clarke (SBGi) ahead of his upcoming title defence against Adam Nowak (Arena Wexford) on Cage Legacy Fight Night Drogheda on February 11th 2017.

Clarke will make his first defence of the title in his home town Drogheda.

How did you get in to the sport? “I was always interested in fighting since I was young from watching the WWE thinking it was real always wrestling with my brother and when I was in 15 one of my mates in school was doing it and he said I think you would be good you should try it and I did and loved it.”

What’s your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight? “I love body shots because some guys can be tough and take the shots but you hit someone in the right spot in the body you can’t take many of those and chokes because there’s no tough guys when it comes chokes you don’t tap your going to sleep and that’s that”

Who is your biggest inspiration? “I take inspiration from a lot of things like people who follow their dreams, people who battled cancer or you see people who lost a load of weight or came from nothing to making something with there life that’s amazing I think.”

What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter? “I love fighting and everything about this sport the people you meet, what it has taught me about myself and it has changed me into who I am today”

“I mix it up well and can fight anywhere I do what I have to do to win and I am one of the most experienced guys on the amateur scene.”

If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be? “Anyone of the best guys in the world just to test myself against them.”
